Loved and hated, mocked and deeply respected, Jesus Christ of Nazareth is by far the greatest personality that has ever lived in the world, that is so because He was not just human, He was God in the flesh. In the middle of human history a man showed up, he was human, but who was beyond all: Jesus Christ. He is the Different One, the Unique One. He moved the world in a way that nobody before did, and no one after ever will.
Encyclopedia Britannica uses 20.000 words to describe the person of Jesus. In that book, Jesus’ description takes up more room than Aristotle, Cicero, Alexander the Great, Julius Cesar, Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed and Napoleon Bonaparte together.
The man Jesus is the greatest man in history. Nobody ever wrote about anybody else more than it is written about Jesus. Nobody else has been that much discussed. Nobody else was more hated, loved, attacked, and praised. There has not been as much art, as many songs, poems, and books written about anybody as there has been about Him. Even people distinguish themselves in Him: some want Him away; some testify for Him, because their life was completely changed and filled with hope. The person of Jesus Christ cannot ever be erased from human history.
In the time of Christmas millions of people celebrate His birth, knowing it or not. At Easter, we remember His death, resurrection and ascension. He is more than a man?!
Bible tells us that Jesus was at the same time, really, man, as much as he is God; true man and true God. In 2 Corinthians 5:19 it is written: "God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself".
His life on this earth shows us He was man, but still keeping the divine qualities. We can see many so called contradictions in His life, contradictions that refer to His human condition, on one hand, and to His divine condition, on the other hand. Jesus was tired, but He called those who labor and were heavily laden to Himself to give them rest. He was hungry, but still the bread of life. He was thirsty, but in the same time, the water of life. He was in a fight with death, but He healed all the wounds of others, and He even raised some from death. He was tempted by Satan, but He released others from demons. He lived in space and time, but He was God. He said: "My Father is greater than I" and "I and my Father are one". He Himself prayed, but He listened to others prayers. He wept at the grave, but He had the power to raise the dead. He died, but He defeated death as He is the eternal life.
Jesus it the perfect man of God, and the perfect God of man.
For God, Jesus is the only perfect man, and for men, Jesus is the only perfect God.
But why did God become man?
1. Because rolling in our sin, like a pig rolls in his mud, we have absolutely no chance to see Him. Therefore, He decided to come to us, to take our nature, and to be an example right in front of our eyes.
2. Because He wanted to show us that God doesn’t move away from man, but He wants to move closer to the sinner, because He loves the world.
3. Because that was the only way He could show us our sin, and the way to be healed.
4. Because He wanted to destroy the work of the devil, to take the power of death, and to defeat sin.
Jesus’ incarnation was the only method of God to save a lost world. "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." (John 3:17)
He comes again!
Soon, Jesus will return. As He ascended almost 2000 years ago, He will return, but in glory.
Many wanted to be gods, army leaders, kings, and all let others’ blood to be shed on their behalf. The Roman Emperor August asked to be called "The Perfect One" (God) or "Kyrios" (Lord) and even "Soter" (Savior). But only God shed His blood for this world. That’s why, only He is the Savior, who is telling you: "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life".
Through the perfect Jesus, the one who puts his trust in Him, will become perfect in God’s eyes. Do you believe this?
