Is God Inside Your Heart?

Inside every heart there is a longing for peace, love and acceptance, might this be a longing for God? Yes, we have inside us the "God gene".The answer to that question is clearly shown in the following fragment in the book of Romans (1:18-25):"Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them.

For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse"

Interestingly enough is the fact that God has already placed within our beings that "receiver" that enables us to hear from the "transmitter", from Him. What we can know about God is already manifested inside of us and we could speak here about a multitude of things including our perpetual desire to find that "home", our unique characteristics as humans, the capacity to discern right from wrong, to have a free will, to have feelings etc.

However, this capacity alone is obviously not enough for us to truly perceive God as we should; when you look around, there are not many people who really have a relationship with The Creator. Besides, many of them deny God and people invented so many religions claiming to have the truth, but they can’t all be right.

So does it mean that we lost our capacity to hear from God? Why and how did this happen when we are already endowed with all it is needed to make a direct connection to God?
The answer becomes clear in the following verses:

"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."

It is a clear progression: when they knew God people (1) did not glorify Him, (2) did not thank Him, (3) imagined vain things and (4) their heart darkened.

If you already are a born again Christian or not, the pattern above is still applicable as it shows you how you will end up if you first of all do not give glory to God.

If you believe that God loves you and has got all power and wisdom, there is really nothing you should be afraid of, regardless how dim things might seem. That is a good enough reason to give glory to God, because He is in control and He wants the best for you! But if we fail to praise Him not recognizing what He does in our lives, then the consequence follows: we do not thank God.

Not thanking God leads to all kind of suppositions and imaginations like for instance today we see the evolution for example. Indeed it does take more faith to believe evolution than to believe in God, however, it is clear that this depersonalization of our species did not lead to a fulfilled heart…on the contrary.

Yes, we are in search, we should always search but we should believe only after we deeply searched. "For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse." No excuse because we can all see what God has made if we really want to look at His creation.

What remains in the end is a blinded heart. We can suppose all kind of stuff and we can come up with all kind of theories but these will only help as much a blind can lead a blind. Yes, they will both fall.

Now emphasizing more from a Christian point of view, the fact that we fail to give glory to God and not showing gratitude will lead to a troubled heart, imagining all kind of scenarios and worrying for the things we shouldn’t. While God tells us not to worry about anything, our imagination goes wild sometimes with all kind of negative thoughts running back and fro, but where does that lead? It leads again to a darkened hart.

A darkened heart in the sense that we ourselves allow the dark clouds of worry and stress take the best of us instead of trusting God.
As children of God, it is imperiously necessary that we renew our thinking according to what God says about us.

Don’t yield into vain imaginations of any kind but get back to the Word of God, to the Bible and first of all, acknowledge what God has already done giving Him glory, have a thankful heart and then renew your mind with God’s thoughts which will ultimately lead to a heart filled with Godliness.
