You Have Power Over Sin

by Reginald Ofori
Sin is the one thing that hinder us from seeing the glory and power of God in our lives. The Bible says all have sin and fallen short of the glory of God. And it also says if we say we have not sinned then we make him Jesus a liar, the truth is not in us. But he said that if we recognize our sins and tell him we have sin he is faithful and just to forgive all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Jesus, our Master, through His shed blood on Calvary, destroyed the power of sin.

He died to remove the spiritual leaven. He destroyed sin the moment His blood was shed. He destroyed sin by the power of His blood. We as believers can experience a life with no leaven. Sin should not have power over you. We are free because the blood has been shed.

Romans 6:10-13 declares: "For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God."

Because we are free, we are commanded not to allow leaven into our lives. Paul the apostle tells us:

"The moment you come to the Cross, you legally receive power over sin.""Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth."We have a choice whether to allow leaven in our lives or not. Sin has been destroyed, but we have the key. We need not allow sin to have dominion over our lives.

I love the great hymns of the church. One such hymn called Holiness Unto The Lord reminds us to remain pure before the Lord as His righteousness we seek:

"Called unto holiness," children of light, Walking with Jesus in garments of white; Raiment unsullied, nor tarnished with sin; God's Holy Spirit abiding within.

"Called unto holiness," praise His dear Name! This blessèd secret to faith now made plain: Not our own righteousness, but Christ within, Living, and reigning, and saving from sin.

"Called unto holiness," bride of the Lamb, Waiting the Bridegroom's returning again! Lift up your heads, for the day draweth near When in His beauty the King shall appear.
