Through God’s Goodness Your Sins Are Forgiven Part Ii

In the first part of this two part series we talked about how, because of God’s goodness, all of our sins past, present and future are already forgiven through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. I showed you how you can get rid of you feelings of guilt and condemnation by simply walking towards the light and not away from it and the importance of changing your direction. In this second part I will show you what God says about your sins and encourage you to focus on His promises.

It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will encourage you and give you comfort by revealing the scripture that we will talk about in this article and make them so very real to you.

Change Your Focus

Do not focus on your sin!
Isn’t it true that the world encourages us to sin, and the church many times encourages us not to sin? In both situations our focus is directed towards sin.
If you are a committed believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, of course you will not give in to the temptations of this world. It is much more dangerous if you hear over and over again the warnings: Don’t sin! Don’t do this and don’t do that.

Why, because your focus is directed towards sin. And as we saw in my first article, to focus on sin means turning and walking away from the light where there is no shadow and no darkness. Don’t concentrate on sin but concentrate on Jesus. If your focus is constantly on sin and you tell yourself day in and day out: don’t do this, don’t do that, then you are focussing on the source of your guilt and condemnation but not on the source of your victory and deliverance.

Please don’t get me wrong here. I am not playing the seriousness of sin down. I am not soft on sin, but I want to be soft on people like you who are hurting from the results of sin. I want to help people that are being held hostage by self-condemnation, shame and spiritual inferiority. That’s why you should sign up for “My Spiritual Support Newsletter”.

So, please, for your own sake do not focus on your sin and your weaknesses but turn your eyes upon Jesus. In and through Him you are more than a conqueror.

You can’t out sin God!
Romans 5:20 (New Living Translation): “God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.”

You know that you have sinned. You might have sinned big. But God is telling you right now that His love for you is far greater than your sins – much, much greater! He lives within you with all of His power and glory. He enables you to live a victorious Christian life. He is saying to you: “My grace and mercy, my love and my goodness are so much greater than your sins can ever be!”

That’s why I say that you just can’t out sin the love of God!

No more condemnation!
Romans 8:1 (Amplified)
Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.

If you have an attitude of self-condemnation you are diminishing the finished work of Jesus by punishing yourself for your own sins. Self-condemnation assumes, that if you punish yourself hard and long enough, if you are sorry enough, if you feel bad enough than God will forgive you.

That would mean that you actually can do something in order to be forgiven. But you can’t do anything to earn God’s mercy, His goodness and His grace. NOTHING! The Bible declares that Jesus came to “put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”
And He succeeded. On the cross He cried out “It is finished”! There is nothing you can do or have to do on your own.

If you confess your sin once, you receive forgiveness once and for all. And then there is no more condemnation on God’s part and there should be no self-condemnation on your part.

God does not remember your sins anymore
Hebrews 8:12 and 10:17 makes the same statement: “And I will be merciful to them in their wrongdoings, and I will remember their sins no more. And then He adds, I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.”

Now why in the name of God would we think of our past sins, focus and dwell on them and let them pull us down if God Himself is never thinking of them? He has decided to never bring them up again. God does not remember your sins anymore! What reason would you then have to live in your past over and over again? There is no reason at all!

Your sins are gone, never to be found again!
Psalm 103:12 (Amplified Bible)
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

This is a great scripture. How far is the East from the West?

You could go from the North Pole to the South Pole. The distance is around 20,014 kilometres, or 12,416 miles. But can you go from the East to the West? No, you can’t. Say you started your journey in New York. You follow your compass and you go straight West. Will you ever arrive at a point where you can say ‘I finally arrived in the West”? No!

God uses this wonderful picture to make us realize, that he has removed our sins from us as far as the East is from the West. You can’t get to them any more. Why then are you holding on to something that in reality is not even there any more? Why don’t you take God’s word and accept that your sins are ‘gone with the wind’!

Let’s sum it up:
God’s mercy is greater than yesterday’s mistakes! The Bible declares that God’s mercy is new every morning. Every morning when you wake up and Satan is reminding you of your past sins, you can pray: Lord I thank you, that your mercy is new for me this day. I receive it and thank you for your forgiveness. Thank you for putting the past behind me and for preparing a beautiful future for me. Today I will focus on you and your word. Amen!
