HOME :: Self-Improvement / Spirituality Death and Life Are in the Power of the Tongue

James 1:19: (NlV) "Take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."

Whether you believe it or not, there is the power of life and there is the power of death resident in the what you speak from your mouth. Everything that you have said this week has either been life-giving or death-dealing and there is nothing in between. The tongue has the incredible power to kill, to destroy, to maim, or it can bless, encourage, lift up and minister grace. And we have a choice over what comes out of our mouth.

Proverbs 21:23 (MSG) "Watch your words and hold your tongue, you'll save yourself a lot of grief."

A careless word can kindle strife.
A cruel word can wreck a life.
A bitter word can hate instill.
A brutal word can smite and kill.
A gracious word can soothe the way.
A joyous word can light the day.
A timely word can lessen stress.
A loving word can heal and bless.

Surely you would like to see your marriage become stronger and your relationships flourish?

Then you need to make a quality decision: To speak only graciously to one another. Speak only kindly to one another. Speak only loving, thoughtful, edifying, inspiring, gentle, unselfish and peaceful words. Speak blessing, appreciation, and encouragement - and wonders will happen in your relationship.

Proverbs 19:11 (MSG) "Smart people know how to hold their tongue."

The book of proverbs in the bible is full of this wisdom and should be meditated on daily.
